Tea Cozy

I have a new-found obsession with tea. Don't ask why. It is what it is. Haha. But as part of my new found love, there come a lot of fun little "accessories" as I call them. Tea pots. Tea cups. Flavored teas. And tea cozies. If you don't know what one is, I will inform you.

When you have a pot of tea, it is best to keep it hot, yes? Who wants cold tea? (I'm not talking iced tea here, people). So, for a long time, people have been using these little insulated covers for a tea pot to keep the heat in. It's called a tea cozy. There are a few different variations, but I needed one for my newly purchased tea pot. I started looking online, since it seems tea cozies are not in high demand these days, and I just wasn't finding what I wanted. So...I decided to make one. It couldn't be that difficult, right? After googling "how to make a tea cozy," I finally found a how-to that I could actually follow with my very limited sewing skills. The end result-a pretty decent looking tea cozy, in my opinion. Especially for a first time attempt. Haha. I think it'll do the job.

This is the tea cozy next to my tea pot (and in front of my tea assortment)
The tea cozy is lined with felt, which is a better insulator that a thinner cotton fabric, like the pretty print I have on the outside. Some cozies are actually quilted, but I didn't want to go to that much effort.

It's always helpful to have a "handle" of some sort at the top of the tea cozy. It's easier to grab a little handle at the top when trying to remove the tea cozy from the tea pot than to try to grab the fabric. My handle is a little shell bead leftover from some jewelry making. Works perfectly.

This is the tea cozy over the tea pot, keeping it warm. :)

Isn't it fun? I know, I know, I'm a nerd. It's ok. I can accept it. It's fun to me, and that's what matters, huh? Ok. I'll take that. :)

Ok, so...finally.

I have been going 90 miles a minute the last couple weeks, so I apologize for my lack of interesting blog posts. Ha.

But this is exciting. I gave my sister a quilt for my new little niece. That I made. First one I have ever made. And I think it came out pretty well. And now that I've given it to her, I can post it. I've been WAITING to post it FOREVER, because I finished it like a month before I gave it to her, and I wanted to surprise her with it. Haha. So now that she's seen it, I can post it. Woohoo!

I'm so proud. It's a good thing you can't see it up close...there are most definitely imperfections. But for my first quilt, I am happy. :) Hooray!

Exerimenting with a sewing machine

Ok, so...I have a sewing machine. I have had it for almost 3 years now. I was not able to figure out how to use it at all until about 6-7 months ago. Only in the past couple months have I actually attempted to really use it. This is one of my first little experiments that I think turned out pretty well. It's kinda cute. And I'm using it to hold my business cards. Fun, huh? :) Just wanted to share.

As I lay me down to sleep...

I finished the project for my friend, including the canvases and letters I posted a little while back, with these larger canvases with the recognizable children's prayer starting "As I lay me down to sleep." These were asked for specifically by my friend, so that's where they came from. But anyway...just wanted to share the finished products. :) The borders match the kiddos' bedding.

Some more commissioned work

I received an order for some custom stuff not too long ago...a mom bought her two daughters each a necklace. It was inspired by my St Patrick's Day giveaway piece. The mom saw my post about the St Patty's giveaway, and thought something similar would be PERFECT for them. She told me they both LOVE Celtic anything, and these were right up their alley-one a little bigger/chunkier in style for one daughter, a smaller, simpler style for the other. I think they turned out great, and I'm excited to hear back about what they think! Let me know...what do YOU think?

Custom Jewelry

I was "commissioned" to make these lovely pieces by my wonderful mother. She sent me beads and said, "Make something pretty." Haha. I enjoyed making them. They're pretty simple, but the colors and shapes of all the cool beads made it fun to do. I hope you like them, Mom! :)

Painted Stuff

I've been working on some kiddie room decor for a friend. I think they've turned out pretty well. :)

First are letters, then some canvases for decoration. They are all made to match the kiddos' bedding. I'm pretty proud of them. :)

For your viewing pleasure...

Jewelry Show

Hello hello!

I did my Spring Bling Jewelry Fling this past Monday, and it went pretty well. I set up all my stuff and had a few people show up, and even had some people who couldn't show up order things from me! Out of all the "new" stuff I made in the past month or so, I sold about half of it. Maybe slightly more than half. And that was just the new stuff. I sold some of my "older" stuff too. So I was pleased. :)

I'm going to post some pictures from the show. There might be another one relatively soon...if it pans out, I'll let you know. Haha.
